Job Title: Health & Physical Education Teacher
Location: East Hickman High School
Job Responsibilities:
1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports some Coaching responsibilities.
2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and
implementing a balanced physical education program.
3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal
sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible based on the TDOE
state standards and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt
the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly,
productive environment in the physical education areas.
6. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field
areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
7. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps
appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other
recordkeeping activities as necessary.
8. Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
9. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team
sports.
10. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
11. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
12. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum
development meetings and other professional activities.
13. Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school and
after-school.
14. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate
administrator.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field and meet the
Tennessee Department of Education licensure eligibility requirements to teach physical
education. Must be eligible for, or in possession or an appropriate TN teaching license. Must
possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and
the public.

• Assesses students' communication skills (e.g., articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility, and developing recommendations for treatment.  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g., parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, team members, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established guidelines.  • Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g., testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre-referral staffing, etc.) for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans.  • Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements.  • Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist’s experience and goals for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.  • Maintains files and/or records (e.g., progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., training, IEPs, team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.  • Provides speech and language therapy to students for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.  • Researches resources and methods (e.g., intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' needs.  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.
