Job Title:  College & Career Counselor and Alternative School Supervisor

Contract Period:  12 months

Location: Split between East Hickman High School and Hickman County High School

Reports to: Career and Technical Education Director

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with others (e.g. teachers, administrators, counselors, students, parents, other district personnel, community organizations, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining CTE services and/or programs. 

  • Leads and/or participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. 

  • Monitors program course codes and components for the purpose of ensuring that student needs are met while maintaining program and district guidelines. 

  • Prepares a variety of program related reports in both manual and electronic formats (e.g. course offering, student participation, achievement, compliance, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and ensuring program requirements are met in an effective and timely manner.

  • Promotes involvement and understanding of the career and technical program for the purpose of meeting the ongoing needs of, and encouraging participation in, the career and technical programs and related course offerings.  

  • Assists in researching and writing grant information for the purpose of securing the funding needed to meet program needs. 

  • Tracks and reports ACT, Graduation, Cohort, Ready Graduate, CCR, TISA CTE Outcome, Industry 4.0 data, and other related information  to district and state; submits appeals to state as needed to ensure correct accountability data for the district

  • Assists high school counselors with EIS, course codes, student enrollment, transcripts, graduation requirements/tracking, social and emotional counseling, and other duties as needed; serves as counselor mentor

  • Collaborates with with principals, counselors, and district staff on course offerings, master schedule, and student scheduling in EIS

  • Maintains National Student Clearinghouse/TN Transcript Exchange for Hope Scholarship verification; sends transcripts to state for graduation verification and to postsecondary institutions 

  • Assists high school athletes and parents with the NCAA/NAIA process and tracks eligibility for college sports participation

  • Guides students in areas related to course selections, academic achievement, and college and career planning and provides ongoing guidance to students related to overall academic success, supporting students as they plan for postsecondary options (workforce, military, college, apprenticeships, etc.)

  • Collaborates with the Special Education department, Voc Rehab, WIOA, American Job Center, etc. for placement of special populations upon graduation; attends IEP meetings

  • Assists in senior event preparation and awards ceremonies 

  • Enrolls students into dual enrollment programs with community colleges, universities, and TCATs; tracks dual enrollment student progress; 

  • Maintains EPSO relationships with postsecondary partners and coordinates school visits, enrollments, application processes, grants, etc. to ensure deadlines are met

    • Provides information about EPSO opportunities to all students

    • Analyzes academic history to determine if DE is the best option for individual students

    • Sends transcripts, DE school approval, and student paperwork  to DE institutions

    • Helps students apply for DE institution, apply for DE grant, and enroll in EPSOs

    • Ensures students meet all deadlines for application/enrollment for each institution

    • Consults with DE institutions to ensure registration/enrollment status is accurate

    • Tracks students in multiple programs at multiple institutions to ensure consortium agreements are completed

    • Assists students with completing consortium agreements and send to appropriate institutions

    • Assists students in signing in to each institutions canvas, dashboard, or other online programs

    • Assists students in purchasing books for courses

    • Consults with institutions about changes in course registrations status (drop/add)

    • Consults with college instructors about specific course issues and student progress; meets with students as issues arise to determine solutions/next steps

    • Ensures student technology blocks aren’t prohibiting them from course content/collaborates with IT department regarding technology blocks

    • Monitors progress in courses

    • Enters grades in EIS for DE courses that are not taught by a teacher of record in our school system

  • Advertises and coordinates scholarship opportunities for students; tracks applications and award amounts; collaborates with community organizations that offer scholarships

  • Assists with the planning and coordination of the CTE career fair, Gold Seal Banquet, 8th grade CTE tours, and other CTE events.

  • Reports industry credentials earned to TDOE annually with tracking assistance from the CTE Assistant

  • Collaborates with Advise TN Advisors to complete the CTE Follow-up Report

  • Collaborates with Advise TN Advisors to plan workshops for students and families (College Fairs, College App Week, TN Promise, FAFSA, College Signing Day, Senior Walk, and other events)

  • Delivers individualized support by interacting daily with high school students and/or parents to provide support through the college admissions and financial aid process 

  • Provides accurate and complete information to students regarding academic, financial, and social barriers to higher education and ways to overcome obstacles that could prevent postsecondary education.

  • Encourages each student to consider a broad range of appropriate post secondary choices. Assists students in exploring and identifying their best-fit options based on individual career interests and life goals. Administers and interpret interest inventory results as part of this process.  

  • Develops a comprehensive college timeline, including application deadlines for admission and financial aid and supports students in meeting college-going milestones.   

  • Assists students in completing and submitting admission, scholarship, and financial aid applications 

  • Analyzes data collection and evaluation of EPSOs and college going rates; develops and executes programs and initiatives to enhance EPSOs and college going rates.   

  • Familiarizes students with TN Transfer Pathways, college student portals, college email systems, orientation, etc.

  • Serves as county TN Promise coordinator; collaborates with tnAchieves, mentors, and community members. 

  • Collaborates with local community groups—chambers of commerce, Business Education Council, etc. regarding student opportunities (internships, job shadowing, financial assistance, etc.)

  • Serves as a resource to former students after graduation and assists as needed.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the CTE Director/Director of Schools.

  • Recruit, retain, and complete observations for an ALC staff of 3 teachers, 1 assistant, and 1 part-time tutor. 

  • Oversee student discipline at the ALC.

  • Oversee the ALC budget: purchasing, receiving, record keeping. 

  • Oversee data tracking for required year-end state reporting. 

  • Oversee probationary reporting to the juvenile justice system when requested. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree.

  • Preferred candidates will hold a master’s degree or higher

  • Preferred candidates will hold a TN teaching license and/or counseling license.

  • Preferred candidates will have high school teaching and/or counseling work experience. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively with teachers, staff, administrators, and parents

 

Hours:  7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Contract Period:    12 month contract

  2. Conduct player tryouts; assess player’s skill and assign team positions

  3. Lead team practices and conditioning sessions

  4. Provide in-game strategy; determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities

  5. Coordinate travel plans for away games

  6. Assist in coordination of the development and promotion of the softball program. 

  7. Maintain constant check of student athlete’s grades and conduct. (May include life skills and developing character)

  8. Effectively communicate with the School Admin, Assistant Coach, Athletic Director, parents, players, bookkeepers, teachers, etc. 

  9. Maintain and secure all softball equipment and uniforms. Manage field care and maintenance. Adhere to EHMS field rules / protocols 

  10.  Any other duties assigned by School Admin and/or Athletic Director that will help build and continue a successful program

Administrative Responsibilities: 

  1. Ensuring all eligibility documents are completed and submitted (sports physicals, FINALFORMS portal created by parents)

  2. Inventory documentation is turned in on time

  3. Holding parents/guardians meetings and meetings with all student athletes

  4. Must follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury

  5. Must represent EHMS and the softball program in a professional manner at all times

Minimum Eligibility Requirements: 2 years verifiable age equivalent basketball coaching experience is preferred. A proven track record with age appropriate skill and program development is preferred. First Aid and CPR certification is required for coaching
