What’s Happening at HCHS…

The 2015-16 school year is off to a great start! Listed below are a few things to share with you.

  • Schedule for TN Ready testing:
    • Thursday, May 5​­ – Biology and Chemistry
    • Friday, May 6 – Make up tests
  • Final Exam Schedule
    • Tuesday, May 10 – 3rd period & 7th period exams
    • Wednesday, May 11 – 2nd period & 4th period exams
    • Thursday, May 12 – 1st period exam
  • Students­​, If you want your report card mailed​, please bring a self­ addressed stamped envelope to the Guidance Dept.
  • Congratulations​­ to the Executive Student Council Officers for 2016­-2017​: President­-Rachel Walls, Vice­-President-­Cooper Mays, Secretary-Rachel Hudgins.
  • Hosa Members-­​Please bring sucker and jerky money i​n by Thursday.​Bring HOSA cord money in Thursday (5-5-16)​.
  • Seniors­ -​Please stop by the Guidance Dept. and fill out your final Transcript Request form.
  • Juniors ​who would like to place nominations for next year SENIOR Class Officers, pick up forms from Mrs. Luttrell in Cosmetology Dept. Turn in your names of students along with their completed form by Wed. May 4th. The election ​will be held during 1st Period on Friday May 6th.
  • Talent Show is scheduled for ​Thursday, May 5. A​ny students wanting to participate please see Ms. Victory or Mrs. Peters. The last day to sign up ​will be Thursday, April 28.
  • Congratulations t​o Rachel Walls, Brielle Hetherington, Steven Caldwell and Riley Qualls for being chosen to attend Girls State and Boys State this year. Please see Ms. Qualls to register
  • Seniors­ – ​Please see Mrs. Jacobs A​SAP ​​to check your name and Senior picture on the wall composite.
  • Seniors​­- Group pictures for Senior slideshow ​are due Thursday, May 5. T​urn in pictures to Mrs. Davidson.
  • Seniors­​- You may now pay for your Senior trip! ​The cost is $85.00. Seats are first come first serve basis. We need 75 students to go. You may pick up permission forms from Mrs. Davidson.
  • The Senior class ​is selling king size candy t​o raise money for graduation. The cost is $2.00 each. Please support them! See a student carrying a box or Ms. Davidson to purchase.
  • Seniors that have earned an Honors Diploma or are in the Top Ten can purchase their graduation stoles in the Guidance office. The cost is $15.00 each. If you are both Top Ten AND have an Honors diploma then you can purchase both and the cost would be $30.00. Please bring cash or a check made out to Hickman County High School. Deadline is May 6th.
  • SENIORS: In order for your scholarships to be announced at Awards Day, you MUST give the Guidance office a paper copy of what scholarships you have been awarded. The deadline to turn this information in is May 4th​.

  • The Hickman Humane Society needs volunteers for these events. For more information see Mrs. Chessor or call HHS toll free number 1­866-­304-­3352.
    • Rabies vaccination clinic at East Hickman Community Center­Saturday, June 11 (9-­3)
  •  Hickman County Public Library​­- Any Senior needing TN Promise service hours may contact Mary Beth Pruitt at the Hickman Co. Public Library at 729­-5130.

  • Seniors attending Columbia State: ​There will be a Meet and Greet for students planning on attending Columbia State on Thursday, April 28, 2016​ at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Hickman County High School. This event is designed for prospective students to meet Columbia State staff and ask questions that you may have before you begin college. You will also be able to meet students from Hickman County that are currently attending Columbia State. You and your parent/guardians are welcome to attend. Food and refreshments will be served. The event should last about an hour. If you plan on going please respond to the email that was sent to you with the number of guests that will be attending.
  • Seniors: ​The deadline to apply for the Summer Bridge program​is May 1st.​ You may apply by visiting tnachieves.org. The Summer Bridge Program is a free three ­week program designed to help incoming students start school on a more college ­ready level, both academically and socially. You are eligible to apply if you made below a 19 on the Math or Reading section of the ACT or an 18 on the English section of the ACT. Please see your email for more information.

  • Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program -Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants​​ are pleased to be able to continue with our scholarship program for the 9th year. We will be awarding up to $1,000 ​to the winner(s) each year. Scholarship Deadline is­ ​​June 10, 2016. Application Process­​ – Students will submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of our web site: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm Full details are available on the site.
  • BigSun Scholarship – The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student.  All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.  Deadline is June 17, 2016.  Amount of award – $500.00.  The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community.   Visit www.bigsunathletics.com to learn how to apply.
  • 2016 Tennessee Governor’s Schools – Tennessee provides 12 summer programs for gifted and talented high school students. Students in the tenth and eleventh grades who would like to participate in a challenging and high-intensity program in one of the twelve areas should click HERE to obtain application.   • SENIORS:TN Promise has changed the community service start date.​Students may now begin​ their community service on Tuesday, November 3​. TN Promise requires 8 hours of community service for each semester you are in college.
  • Student Application Open for 2015-16 U.S. Senate Youth Program– The program offers high school students in their junior or senior years the opportunity to participate in an annual Washington Week event in March, which includes a variety of events that promote a unique understanding of the structure of our national government. The Hearst Foundations also offer selected state finalists a $5,000 undergraduate scholarship. The student application and instructions for applying are available here
